ABOUT MICHAEL
Michael is 19 years old (2013) and lives in London. He was raised in foster care until the age of 15. He was then raised by his sister for the following two years. Feeling grateful and blessed for those who cared lovingly and selflessly for him, he began to search for a way to give something back to the world that had given him a second chance.
He received the opportunity to go to South Africa in 2010 with Lewisham Care Services. During that experience, he volunteered at a monkey rehabilitation centre and gained a flavour for voluntary contributions. He returned to England from that trip and began training as a youth worker. He began working at the YMCA in Southeast London in 2011 as a Drama Mentor. In 2012, he also became a Teaching Assistant at his former school, which is where he realised he loved working with young people, especially relating to the arts.
In 2013, he was invited to volunteer in India, which took him on his next big adventure. Upon his return to London, he began volunteering at the Right Choice Project, a centre for young people who are on the verge of losing all educational support. He works on engaging and improving their perspectives on life whilst incorporating his own artistic influences.
He and his girlfriend have recently set up a charity called the ‘Get Wild Team‘ in an attempt to engage like-minded people who want to make a difference in the world. Their first trip is set for this September; he will return to South Africa where it all began…
